Victoria Restler is an Assistant Professor of Educational Studies and Director of the Youth Development Master’s Program at Rhode Island College. Since 2002 she has worked in schools, galleries, neighborhoods and nonprofits to address social issues through participatory art-making. Victoria proudly supports Youth In Action’s mission to make space for youth to share their stories, practice leadership, and create change in their communities. A BK-born, mother, interdisciplinary artist and scholar, she received her PhD in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research shines a light on teachers’ invisible carework expanding our imagination of teacher labor, and calling out the mismatch between white, middle-class expectations and the actual practices, joys and demands of urban teaching. She is a karaoke kween.
